Sisters' haunted house raises funds for Cancer
My sister and I hosted our 6th annual Spooky Tours for Cancer Oct 16-18, 2015 with the help of 20 fabulous volunteers.
We transform our home into a themed haunted house to raise money for cancer research. This year's theme was a circus. Our event is geared for people of all ages. It took over1,000 to put this event together.
Background:
My siblings and I wanted to do more to fight cancer. They were inspired after their three-year-old friend overcame a grim diagnosis of a 2% survival from brain cancer. Once their friend was out of hospital, the siblings joined his team walking for twelve hours at the Canadian Cancer’s Relay for Life. After their first Relay for Life in 2006, they were upset they could not do more. In 2009, the siblings decided to create their own event to fight cancer. In 2010, the siblings recruited three volunteers, fifteen guests and raised $5. By 2014, the sibling’s recruited eight volunteers, one hundred guests, including Mayor Brenda Holloran, CTV News, and raised $500. Last year, the sisters grew the event even bigger recruiting twenty volunteers, with even more guests, including Mayor Dave Jaworsky, MPP Catherine Fife, MP Bardish Chaggar, CBC radio, 570 News, CTV News and raised $1, 374.55.
